It is an honor and pleasure to represent District Two on the City Council, where my colleagues and I work to keep Stevens Point thriving as a vibrant community and local economy. My colleagues and I are proud of all the growth taking place, with Stevens Point seeing $214 million in net new construction in the last four years.
Even a wonderful town like ours can’t afford to rest on its laurels. In the City’s new strategic plan (many of you gave input through an online survey), it says that preserving the community’s strengths while updating for the future should be a matter of both/and, not either/or. Our local politics don’t always follow that idea, but it’s key to our future success.
At a time of pandemic, the need to be nimble and creative has been all the more urgent, and the Council responded with: grants to help small businesses make rent, relaxing deadlines for property tax payments, helping tavern owners serve more of their customers outdoors, and adjusting developer agreements to keep the projects at Lullaby & Kmart sites on track. Other items from my record as an alderperson are listed below. I hope it gives constituents a basis to vote for me in April to serve another term.
For many of these items, I need to thank and give credit to the District Two constituents who raised their concern and spurred me to follow through. If you ever have a question or concern, don't hesitate to contact me at StevensPointersForShorr@gmail.com
